Designed to break away under moderate impact (rather than obliterating the entire front of the car like a solid mounted splitter).

We have used and raced this type of breakaway splitter for many years. It works great!. 

The supporting parts are designed and proven to hold up under severe racing duty. All the downforce can be applied with no issue. However, If the splitter endures a direct impact, the supporting parts are designed to shear off and send the splitter backward, under the car. Track crew fetches it for you after the session. Slap it back on with new supporting parts between sessions.
